Essential Things to Pack for Traveling

With the holiday season coming up people are now rushing to make last-minute travel plans. Destinations decided, hotel bookings confirmed, shopping almost done and now the only thing left is to pack everything. Packing can be a tiresome job, especially for first-time travellers.

You probably cleared your closet for all the favorite clothes you plan to take with you along with the new ones you specially brought for the trip. Then there is the camera to take care of, the travel documents to organize, medications to pack and so on. The list seems endless.

Space is always a constraint. It does not matter whether you are going on a short trip or a month-long hiking trip. There are certain essential things for travelling that cannot be left behind.

So to ease your worries we have prepared a checklist of all the essential elements of travelling. Tick off the items one by one as you progress.

List of the Essentials

We have compiled a list of 25 essentials that is sure to make your journey comfortable and trouble-free.

1. Passport

If you are going on an international trip, the first thing you need to make sure of is that your passport is within your reach. Without a valid passport, you will not be able to board the flight. So a passport is a must-have item on your checklist. Also, ensure that you have at least 6 months of valid time left before your passport expires. Along with your passport make sure you carry a visa and other documents which you might need.

2. EU Adapters

Never forget those EU Adapters. Buying one from any of the duty-free shops in the Airport terminal can be a lot more expensive. We recommend a minimum of 2 adapters for charging your mobile, camera or any other appliance.

3. Underwear

Pack sufficient underwear to last you throughout your trip. However, you can always clean your dirty underwear to make it last longer. But please ensure that your dirty laundry is kept in a separate bag so as not to mix them all up.

4. Sanitizer

With the Covid situation still reigning supreme a hand sanitizer is one of the most essential things to pack for travelling.

5. Power Bank

A feeling of helplessness envelops us when a phone runs out of power due to lack of charge. This is all the more frustrating when we are all along in the big city or missing out on an amazing photoshoot. Thus you must carry it out whenever you are on the road.

6. Clothes

Your clothes should be the right balance of summer wear with a few woolens thrown when you think that there can be a sudden dip in temperature. It comes in handy to check the weather forecast beforehand and pack appropriately.

Make a mental note of all the activities you might participate in and carry everything that you might need and enjoy the trip thoroughly.

7. Waterproof Mac

No matter how many times you check the weather before venturing out, a quick shower may dampen your spirit. A waterproof Mac will protect you against such an eventuality.

8. Shoes

One can never truly underestimate the quality and comfort of a sturdy pair of walking shoes if you intend to go trekking or do a lot of sightseeing on the foot.

9. Water Bottle

It is best to carry a water bottle with you at all times. Most backpacks have fit in water bottle compartments, wher4e you can easily put your water bottle. This makes it easy to reach out for the bottle to quench your thrust whenever you feel the urge.

10. Hairbrush/Comb

Pack your toiletries in a separate pouch and bring them along with you. This may include a hairbrush, comb, toothpaste, shampoo, tampons and whatever else you may need.

11. Emergency Medicines

It is always wise to carry painkillers, ointments, band-aids, and other emergency medication with you whenever you are on the move. You can never predict when an attack of stomach bug or muscle ache will force you to cut the trip short. After all, your health is the one that matters the most.

12. Sunglasses

Have you felt the need to protect your eyes from the harsh glare of the sun? A sunglass is needed. A good quality durable sunglass that will last throughout your entire trip is what you should aim for.

13. Torch

No camping gear is ever complete without a torch. Hiking through the woods or mountain parts can be super scary without a torch to guide your way. Nothing fancy, the cheap flashlight will serve your purpose just as well.

14. Flip Flops/Sandals

As we have stated early a comfortable pair of flip flops/sandals is essential to beat the summer heat. Invest in a comfortable pair to avoid blowouts.

15. Padlock

There is always a chance of losing your valuables unless and until it is padlocked. This is all the more imperative when you are travelling on trains at night times or tugging your luggage through crowded streets. Trust me padlocking will give you a sense of relief.

16. Cap/Hat

Caps keep your head well protected from the sun. Plus they are quite cheap and are worth a buy. They can be hung on your backpack to save you some space.

17. Lip Balm

Remember to pack SPF lip bum to prevent chapping of the lips. Lips easily dry out in the sun. So keeping it moisturized is essential. Most pharmacies stock up in lip balms that are quite good. So buying the right one from your neighborhood store can never be too difficult.

18. Books

If you are a book lover, spending long hours on the train or flight can be tiresome and boring to say the last. So be sure to bring in some good books to catch up on your reading while travelling.

19. Snacks

We all like to indulge in tidbits when hunger pangs strike us. So packing a few chocolate bars or crispies will go a long way to satisfy our palette. However, do make sure that all your snacks are well within the due date.

20. Camera

We all love to cherish the memories of our trips long after we come back. What better way to do so than to take photographs of those memorable moments. Whether you prefer using a DSLR camera or a phone camera, the choice is entirely yours. Nowadays mobile phones come with high-resolution cameras allowing you to take amazing photos.

21. Hard Drive

If you are a travel vlogger or a photojournalist, taking a hard drive with you is all the more important. Very soon you will use up all the space in your camera or the phone by taking photographs. These photographs then need to be stored somewhere else. Plug the hard drive into your camera/phone to keep your valuable memory safe.

22. Photocopies of All Travel Documents

It is a good idea to make photocopies of all your travel documents for instance passport, driving licence and anything else you might need. Usually, the hotels check your identification papers, as soon as you check-in. To be on the safe side, keep spares with you at all times in case you misplace any of the documents.

23. Travel Pillow

Taking a travel pillow to lay down your head while journeying through endless hours is a boon. It helps you to manage your neck pain and ensure that you are well-rested.

24. Ear-buds/Headphones

There are times when you are likely to feel bored especially if you are travelling solo. These ear-buds/headphones will be your perfect companion and keep you entertained during those monotonous hikes.

25. Disinfecting Wipes

There is always the risk of catching germs when travelling. So you must carry a pack of disinfecting wipes in case you touch anything infectious. These wipes will take care of your hygiene.

26. Travel Wallet

Keeping things organised and within reach save you time and space when you are rushing off to board your flight. What better way to stay organised than a travel pouch. A travel pouch is a perfect accessory to keep all the important documents like passport, ticket and much more.

27. Travel Steamer

Taking a travel steamer along with you is helpful especially for those who have to attend business, parties and conferences and do not want to end up in crumpled up clothes. Some of the high-end hotels do provide laundry services but it is exceedingly expensive.
