His parents were professors of Hindi Sahitya at Delhi University at a college affiliated with Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. One of his brothers lives in the USA and works as a Software engineer; the other is a Civil Servant, and he is posted as a DIG at the CBI.

Not much is known about his childhood life. However, we know he was a studious kid. He completed his schooling in Saraswati Sishu Mandir, Bhiwani, Haryana. Initially, he started pursuing a Bachelor in Commerce. Yet, later, he changed his field to arts because most of his friends were preparing for the UPSC examination and suggested the same to him.

While he was still in college, his family moved to Bhiwani, Haryana, during the last year.

He chose to pursue an MA in Hindi Literature from Delhi University. Still, unfortunately, he couldn’t get in, so finally, he pursued it at Zakir Hussain College.

He passed the UGC NET JRF exam during the final year of his MA. Dr. Vikas Divyakirti holds a degree in MA Psychology, M.Phil, LLB, and a Ph.D. This is not all; he also has an interest in translation and, as a result, pursued a postgraduate degree in Hindi and English translation from the renowned Delhi University.

Career of Vikas Divyakirti

After completing his master’s, he decided to appear for the UPSC examination. In 1996, he made his first attempt with sociology as optional, and fortunately, he cleared it in his first attempt only. His rank was 384. He secured for himself the post of Assistant Commandant of the CISF. Since God had a better plan for him, he was found medically unfit for the post as he had Flat feet. He then joined the Central Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs. After that, he decided to appear for the next UPSC exam but couldn’t clear the mains this time. Finally, during his Ph.D., he decided to give his third attempt with Philosophy as optional. Still, this time, he couldn’t clear the interview round.

 In 1999, he got a letter to join the central secretariat. He rejected the offer at that time. However, later accepted it as he was debt-hidden and saw this opportunity as a way out. He got a post in the Home Ministry and was granted his request to join the Rajbhasha Department. He started working as a desk officer in that department but resigned in six months. 

He decided to give his last attempt in 2003; this time, he couldn’t clear the first stage. During this time, he also worked at his coaching institute, Drishti IAS.

He founded Drishti IAS Coaching Classes in 1999 in Delhi. His aim was to provide a simplified education for UPSC aspirants. He decided to start his coaching class because he was rejected for the post of Hindi Lecturer at Shivaji College. He then took 15000 rupees from his friend to rent a place and the necessary equipment to start his coaching institute. Initially, he gave lectures in Hindi so the students could understand better. The first batch had only 12-15 aspirants. 

He now also works as an editor of “Drishti Current Affairs Today” Monthly Magazine. To take his efforts a step further and help students, he started his YouTube channel in 2017 under the name “Drishti IAS.” The channel has a lot of videos of study materials and exam preparation strategies. He also authored a book in 2021 called “Nibandh Drishti.
